Intentionality

I’ve always been a self-proclaimed “go with the wind” kind of girl. Carefree. Go with the flow. Whatever you want to call it, and honestly, that path feels easier. Who doesn’t appreciate easier when you already have so much going on?!
Up until now, I thought that was a strength, but I’ve come to realize something: while “going with the wind” has its benefits in some situations, it’s not the best course of action in every situation. And that has been a trap I’ve fallen into more times than I’d like to admit. As I’ve grown in life and in Christ, it’s become more and more apparent that being intentional—in all things—almost always leads to a better outcome.
I was reminded of the scripture from Ephesians 4:14 when I had this realization: “…we won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind…” and I imagined a dandelion seedling being blown about. A very whimsical and serene scene as the seedling drifted in the wind, and then, I saw myself as that seedling, floating with no clear direction and no real say in where I would land. My destination completely determined by my environment. Yikes. Not so whimsical anymore.
Without intention, without direction, without being anchored in Christ, we aren’t free, we’re simply drifting. Scripture reminds us that we are called to be “rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith” (Colossians 2:7).
Not floating. Not drifting. Not allowing every season, every emotion, or every circumstance to determine our direction. Rooted.
I knew coming into this year that I needed to be more intentional. With my goals, time, relationships, decisions, and most importantly, my walk with God. I don’t want to keep floating from season to season, hoping I’ll land where I’m supposed to. I want to be intentional about going with God to where He has called me.
What’s something you can be more intentional about in this season?
Dear Lord,
Help us to be intentional.
Amen.
